Wheels day (2!)

Image
Hello there! Yesterday we had a Wheels Day, and we sold off left overs (No food, it all got sold out, thankfully) from the Celebration Day. It was a gold coin donation day, meaning everyone wore mufti and brought a gold coin. As the Celebration Day itself was a success, I presume this was too. Some people slid right over the red cushions. Of course, others knocked them out of place. We also had a slip'n'slide, that had a number of laughs, such as when someone kind of did a roly-poly over the red cushions. Most of the laughs involved hilarious crashes into the red cushions. Often, two people went down together (I never did, though), which meant they went really far. I never crashed into the cushions. My feet just heavily tapped the cushions and some bubbly water went on to the grass in front of it. Everyone always got splashed in their face. The swimming pool was open as well. There was a lot of splashing in it, and even more started when the rings were thrown in. I alw

Recycled paper!

Hello there again! Recently we have been making a lot (almost 100 cards!) of recycled paper to sell at the Gala day. For more info on the Gala day, see " Buy a seed bomb now! - Post not sponsored by anything! ". I think the reason we are doing recycled paper because the Gala day seems to have a focus on being environmentally friendly. Unsurprisingly, the main thing we learnt was how to recycle paper (And that is very inclusive). I don't think many (Or any. That rhymes!) of us knew how to recycle paper. We all wrote a procedural writing text (At least a plan) on how to make paper (I'm pretty sure "making paper" and "recycling paper" both work), which I currently have with me. I have had to modify it a bit. Making cards out of recycled paper You will need: Paper A bucket A mould and deckle An egg beater A sink Glue And finally, a small piece of paper Making it First, get some paper (Try not to use newspaper, it is too inky) Then

A late post about Athletics day

Image
Hello again! It's nearing the end of 2017, and considering I didn't post about Athletics day, I think I will now. When do we go over the hurdles? Our Athletics day was on the 14th of November this year. It was almost cancelled half-way through, because it was looking rainy and if I remember correctly, there was a very light drizzle at some time. But it went though, although I was finding it a bit too cold and noisy at the end so I was sent to help in the staffroom. Go everyone! One thing from that day I will probably remember a while is high-jump. That high-jump was only the second time I had ever done it without knocking over the bar. Another reason I will probably remember it was because the mat was incredibly hot, so I always ended up rolling onto the red cushions beside it. The runners look very small from here. I think my group missed out on one thing because something else ran over time. I can't quite remember what it was, but I think it was tr

Celebration day thinking hats!

Hello! Recently we made a slideshow, which was about what we thought about the Celebration Day, such as what we thought was good, what we thought was bad, and what we would have changed. Here it is! We all made something related for our portfolio, and a QR code is supposed to link that to this presentation. At the Celebration day there were dances, stalls, and plenty of fun (even for babies!). It was a big success, and thankfully all the food got sold out. Apparently we made around $14k, and I expect more will come because we are having a gold coin day where we are going to sell what was left over. If you want to comment, please do! Bye!

Buy a seed bomb now! - Post not sponsored by anything!

Image
Hello there! This week, as part of our class inquiry, aka making (and selling) stuff made out of paper, I made an ad for seed bombs. I'm sure that most people reading this will be asking: What is a seed bomb? How does it have anything to do with paper? But first, here is the ad. A seed bomb is a ball of dirt with seeds and paper in it. You just put it in the garden (or throw it in, as some photos say) and then whatever the seeds were, it grows. So, that answers both questions, doesn't it? They will be sold in packs of 3 for a dollar, in Manukau. I'm afraid that is all I know about them, as I'm currently making gift cards (including a very difficult one with 2 candy canes). If you want to comment, please do! If you can, please come to the gala day. At Waikowhai Primary (Look on Google maps), on the 25th of November, from 10 AM to 3 PM. Bye!

A crazy science show

Image
Kia ora everyone, it's Maori Language week. But that's not what I'm posting about today (I probably will later in the week). Today, we had a science show in the hall, which came from Australia.  Get this off me! We learnt lots, and I think that was the point. For example, did you know that water is the only known substance (at normal air pressure) that can be liquid (water), solid (ice), and gas (water vapour)? We also learnt quite a bit about mixing colours. Mix green, blue, and red together and you get brown. Ew! It even tasted horrible, according to the critics. They made huge bubbles that could probably fit a TV inside, as well as showing us rockets that use headache tablets ó €¢ó €¢ó €¢ó €¢ó €¢ó €¢ó €¢ó €¢ó €¢ó €¢ó €¢ó €¢ó €¢and fly off unexpectedly. This hairdryer could blow you all away! You can make a ball fly if you put it above a hairdryer. Interesting fact: Polymers turn liquids into solids. We also learnt how nappies work. If you don't want to know, then skip 5 l

All about camp, all about camp...

Hello everyone! As you may (or may not) have heard, last week we went to camp at Ruapehu. This year, I went. It was for four days. We had to either ski or snowboard, and I chose skiing. But that was not the only thing we did! We also did tobogganing and scenic chairlift rides. But that is not what I'm going talk about today (And no, I do not dictate to a computer to write blog posts.). Today, you are going to see a slideshow about camp. As a matter of fact, here it is! And yes, I know that normally, I would put a lot of photos at the bottom of the post, but I won't do that today because they are in the presentation. And so is most of the key info. But I'll tell you that anyway. So, we went to Mount Ruapehu for four days to ski or snowboard. There! All in one sentence. Skiing was very challenging, and everyone kept falling over. But most people managed in the end. Please comment. Bye!

I wasn't here on Thursday...

Hello everyone!  Today 24 students from our school went to New Windsor School in Avondale, for the Ako Hiko Student Toolkits. And what, you are probably asking, is that? Basically, it's where 21 to 24 students from every school in the Ako Hiko Cluster, come to one of the schools in it. The students do demonstrations on things like quiz making, or coding. It happens every year and, this year, I went! I didn't present, but everyone worked on something to present. Here is our one below. Our school had two topics to do: quiz making, which Anuk and I did, and animation using Google Slides. Izzy and Lily did quiz making, and Oscar, Alex, and Bruno did animation. I went to a coding session, then the quiz making one. Mr Riceman took a lot of photos, so here are some of them. These aren't all of them, though. I really enjoyed it, and I learned lots. Specifically, I learnt how to code a ping pong game, and quite a bit about making a quiz. Feel free to comment. Before you go, ple

Our dream tents

Image
Hello everyone! This week, in maths we made tents that we would like to camp in. We made them out of toothpicks and modelling clay. We used modeling clay to stick the toothpicks together. All I had was a box. But still, you could use it as a tent. I am assuming you want to see it so here it is! I put the extra toothpicks beside it, and the extra clay in the middle. We put the tents on a piece of cardboard so we could move it easily without damaging it. You will probably notice that it is slightly bent. It kept falling over so I had to re build it over and over again. But eventually I managed. I wanted a triangular roof, but I didn't have the time. Any opinions or suggestions? If you do, then please comment. Bye!

Through the process of manufacturing & consuming toast

Hello! Today I finished a procedural text on how to make and eat ... toast. Oh, and crumpets too! I know, it sounds boring, but it isn't. I'll stop boring you with the details and let you have a look. As a matter of fact, here it is! So, on Monday this week, we started procedural writing and I decided to do toast. I heard someone else did cheese sandwiches. I really enjoyed it. I admit, I have toast most mornings. There is nothing wrong with commenting, so please do. See you later. Bye!

About my character, James

Image
Last week, we made a character using Build your wild self  (or, as it calls itself, BuiLD YouR WiLD SeLF ) and here it is.  Vóila! We made a Y-Chart and a character description. Here is the Y-Chart: And now, here is the character description:  hmm, change tabs, higlight, ctrl+c Looks James has combed back, blonde hair. His shirt is blue and his pants are greyish-brown. He is wearing pale colored, laced shoes. He is 100% human. Actions When James is not being a secretary to The Leader of The Opposition, whoever that might be, he is enjoying the sights in Wellington and exploring them. Oh, and of course talking and having his nose in a book about politics. His latest read is called “The history of The Opposition of the New Zealand Parliament ” by P. Olitics, published by the Parliamentary Press. Odd name, don’t you think so? He often goes to protests and sells signs for them. He also makes up jokes and plays with little children lots. He, every now and then,

A thinglink about me!

Image
Hello! Yesterday, for cybersmart, we made a thinglink about ourselves. A thinglink is basically an interactive picture. This one has a picture of me, made using BeFunky , from the last cybersmart lesson. And here is mine! Wait, wait! Before you look, I'd better tell you how to use it. Just hover your mouse above the dots and take a look! And now, I am told, I must write a reflection so you know what I learned and what I noticed. So, I learned what information I should share about myself online. I noticed that what you share controls what people think about you. So, be careful too! Feel free to comment on this. Bye!

After three fantastic weeks in a ILE...

Image
Hello everyone! On the 22nd last month, we moved into Te Waka Ako (click on it for a hilarious translation and here for a even funnier one, both wrong. It means "The canoe of learning") which is a ILE (innovative learning environment).  Once we had been in there for two days, which was on Wednesday that week, we did a reflection on our two days and here it is! I has really helped our learning as we have more choice, and we will be going with different teachers. The local MP (Michael Wood) making his speech The wonderful preformance of the Kapa Haka group MOE Property Division people looking on The unveiling of the sign A thank you to the wonderful Ms Sands, who put hours into that lovely sign. And the ribbon is cut! Ask him, not me! The whole school fits in here, and quite cosily The sculpture that claims the blue space as Ms Sands. Why can't the other teachers have them too? These people here should be learning in

Who looks at my blog?

Image
Today in Cybersmart, two interesting things happend. Here they are. We got a new Cybersmart teacher We did what you will see soon enough I always enjoyed Cybersmart, but I am excited about the new teacher! What I did was six groups of people that I think look at my blog and here is that. I made it huge because this is the only size it looks right in. Please comment if you are not in one of those groups (sorry if you aren't) or you have a idea for another group. I can't change it once you see this but suggestions matter! Bye!
